SCIENCE ENRICHMENT PROGRAM FOR PRESCHOOLERS & KINDERGARTNERS

We are proud to annouce the return of our Science Enrichment Program for the 2023-2024 school year. Registrations are now being accepted for sessions beginning in September. Our program is geared for students who will be 4 before September 1st and for Kindergarten age students.
Objective: Through hands-on learning of Life Sciences, we will spark a natural curiosity for young minds to grow a love and appreciation for science while studying the diversity of life on earth.
Biodiversity, Adaptations, Conservation
Each session will include a lesson and experiments or projects to reinforce the subject matter. Topics for this semester include classification, insects and invertebrates, fish, amphibians, birds, reptiles, and mammals.
Teacher: Mrs. Joan Batson
Mrs. Batson worked as a Natural Science Academy teacher at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History for 10 years. She developed and taught programs for Camp Earth, preschool through 8th grade science classes, home school classes, and enrichment classes for Girl and Boy Scouts on a variety of subjects from Biology, Paleontology, and Anthropology. Mrs. Batson has been teaching this enrichment program at Salem Preschool since 2011. She has current clearances on file.

Week 8: Ecosystems: habitats, food chains
Week 9: Animal adaptations: animal superlatives
Week 10: Legless Wonders: caecilians, tube worms, legless lizards
Week 11: Animal defense: coloration, locomotion, toxins
Week 12: Nocturnal: bats, owls
Semester 3:
Week 13: Animal communication: voice, stance, color
Week 14: Desert ecosystem: climate, adaptations
Week 15: Rainforest ecosystem: canopy, endangered
Week 16: Arctic ecosystem: tundra, adaptations
Week 17: Ocean ecosystem: whales, oceanic zones
Week 18: Sharks: Great White, Hammerhead
Semester 4:
Week 19: Pinnipeds: walruses, seals
Week 20: Snakes: locomotion, venom
Week 21: Turtles: turtles, tortoises, terrapins
Week 22: Crocodilia: crocodiles, alligators, caimens, gavials
Week 23: Spiders: arthropods, arachnids
Week 24: Plants: germination, importance
Semester 5:
Week 25: Humans: organ systems
Week 26: Geology: rocks, minerals
Week 27: Dinosaurs
Week 28: Pleistocene: Ice Age
Week 29: Weather
Week 30: Forces: gravity, motion, magnetism, light, sound
Class size is limited to 16 students. Fee: $125 per 6 class semester.
